SAF Comments on Proposed NEPA Revisions

The USDA Forest Service is revising its National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Overall, SAF strongly supports the NEPA efficiency efforts outlined in the
proposed rule including the addition of new categorical exclusions on road construction and ecosystem restoration, Determination of NEPA Adequacy procedures, and line officer flexibility regarding scoping. In conjunction with these changes, we also recommend that the Forest Service take steps to improve transparency and accountability, increase training for line officers and NEPA practitioners, and develop information sessions to help stakeholders understand engagement opportunities.
